Birger C. Lindahl was born in Sweden and arrived in America in 1882. Lindahl became a baker and started a small business making fresh breads at home and delivering them around his neighborhood.

In 1887, Birger changed the spelling of his last name from Lindahl to Lyndell and at the young age of 21, Birger Lyndell opened Lyndell’s Bakery in Somerville, MA.
